Yarrow Point is a special city with its small neighborhood feel and its proximity to our larger cultural centers. It's a great place to live and I would like to work with the city team to keep it that way.
We've seen an uptick in crime this year, from the mailbox smashings to the kayak home invaders. We need to keep our strong relationship with the police and each other to maintain our sense of community as our region goes through turmoil.
State officials have passed many laws in the past two years that are taking away the rights of small towns to control their own destiny and instead are mandating centralized planning. As a city council member I will work with the rest of the team to help preserve what makes us special and push back on Olympia's overreach.
Like many of us in the tech industry, I became a Pacific Northwest Local when I moved to the region in the 80s to work for Microsoft. I have been an executive at many of the area's leading companies as well as a serial entrepreneur. I've built and sold 6 VC backed startups and am currently a Vice President at a company focused on taking care of our furry family members. You can find out more about me on LinkedIn. I have an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degree from Princeton University. I've worked with a variety of regional non-profits in the arts, but this is my first foray into politics, unless you include corporate politics. I've worked on enough complicated projects and dealt with enough regulations that I figure I am reasonably qualified. I'm a Peloton addict and you might also find me bird watching in the neighborhood (see one of my belted kingfisher photos below). My wife is a life coach. We're now empty nesters, with our kids working as a government scientist, a Google engineer, and a teacher for the Peace Corps. We've been blessed.
I've been increasingly upset with a mix of new laws that erode the ability for cities and towns to control their own style of life. While these laws may be well intentioned they are often poorly written or executed and that puts our communities at risk. Instead of sitting on the couch grousing I figured I should get involved.
I don't want any campaign contributions or ugly signs. But I would be happy to have a glass of wine with anyone who would like to stop by to chat.
